At Vivid Eyecare, we believe great eye care goes beyond a basic exam. Whether you’re visiting us for your very first checkup or returning for a new prescription, our goal is to provide a smooth, informative experience—from the moment you walk in to the moment you pick up your new glasses or contact lenses.
The Eye Exam Process: Step by Step
Your appointment begins with a warm welcome at the front desk, followed by a quick check of your personal and insurance information. From there, we guide you through a thorough exam that includes:
Pre-Testing
Before seeing the optometrist, we conduct essential tests to assess your eye health. These include:
- Auto-refraction: Provides an initial measurement of your prescription.
- Eye pressure testing: A key step in checking for conditions like glaucoma.
- Optional retinal scans (OCT, macula, and glaucoma imaging): These high-tech scans offer a deeper look at your eye health. While not included in the standard exam, they can be added for a separate fee.
The Comprehensive Eye Exam
- Once pre-testing is complete, you’ll see the optometrist for a full assessment. This includes:
- Checking your vision and determining your exact prescription.
- Screening for eye diseases or concerns.
Discussing any symptoms, vision challenges, or lifestyle needs.
If additional testing is required—such as a visual field test or macula scan—your doctor will explain the reasons and guide you through the next steps.
After the Exam: Choosing Your Glasses or Contacts
Once your prescription is finalized, we’ll help you explore your eyewear options. Here’s what to expect:
Glasses Selection
We offer a wide selection of frames and lenses to suit all styles and budgets. Your optometrist will let us know whether your glasses are for:
- Reading
- Computer use
- Driving or distance
- Or a combination (like progressive lenses)
We’ll walk you through your options, including:
- Single vision lenses – great for one specific task (like reading).
- Progressive lenses – designed for both near and far vision, without the visible line of bifocals.
Turnaround times:
- Single vision glasses: 5–7 business days
- Progressive lenses: 7–10 business days
Contact Lenses
If you choose contact lenses, we’ll help you find the right fit based on your lifestyle and eye health. Your prescription is carefully adjusted for contact lens use, and we offer options like:
- Daily disposables
- Bi-weekly lenses
- Monthly wear lenses
The optometrist may recommend specific brands, especially if you experience dry eyes or other sensitivities.
Contact lenses typically arrive within the week after ordering. If you're ordering a year's supply, we’ll even discuss delivery options, especially if you're located outside the area.
Need Help Choosing? We’ve Got You Covered.
Not sure which type of lenses is right for you? We’re here to explain the differences between single vision, bifocals, and progressives—and help you select the best option based on your vision needs and budget.
